Went to EY Holiday party, but this time as my SO’s +1!
House of the Dragon - okay I’m hooked. Episode 7. Too good.
Speaking of which, one of my favorite books, His Dark Materials, just released Season 3 on HBO. How the hell did this sneak under me?
I got to meet Femi O. who is a product manager contending with private equity fund accountants. LOL good luck dude, I already know your pain.
I also got to meet Pat who recently discovered the marvels of business and operations, after starting off in R&D. Sup Pat.
There’s a McDonald’s Gold Card offered in December and I totally want it.
I picked up Against the Storm this week and I’ve already clocked 26 hours in it.
Portal just released RTX version and I will 100% replay it now.
Dwarf Fortress just released a new modern version of itself and that’s on my list. Thanks Peter.
I HAVE GOOGLE FIBER NOW. GOOD BYE COX. HELLO 125 MB/S DOWNLOADS.
See this place? Stella Jeans? Best ice cream in Costa Mesa - get the Mango Sticky Rice and the Ube. They have like 6 flavors only. So easy to choose.
If I used regular chrome, I perhaps could learn sign language as I browse using this extension.
What I Reflected On
TL;DR: Why do things I like, faster?
The Thing About Time
In times where I’m busy, I’m painfully aware of the need to “do things fast”. That persistent need to be in a rush, to get things done faster so that you move on to the next thing.
That drive to shorten your lunch so that you can get back to work.
Wait a sec.
I’ve worked with people who shorten their lunch, or eat their lunch, so that they can get more work done. That’s fine, and there’s a place for that.
Maybe it lets them go home early, or avoid socializing with coworkers. I get it.
I’m not talking about that.
What I’m talking about is when I’m at home, working or not, I once found myself in a period where I would make super quick lunches, or quick microwavable meals, or literally skip all that for DoorDash.
Then I realized…I like to cook food. I like to take my sweet ass time making food. I like preparing things and getting them cooking and spending the hour or two getting it together.
When I make coffee, well, espresso, I go through the steps of grinding it, pouring it, sitting at a table, and sipping on it slowly.
In many ways, I took what could typically be fast things, and make them very long rituals.
Why?
Well, I love it. So why would I do them faster?
The thought here this: Why do the things we enjoy faster? Wouldn’t it be better to savor the moment?
If you juxtapose things you don’t want to do, like work, what’s the rush to getting back to work?
What part of your life today would you skip, and what would you skip forward to? Why?
There’s my philosophical brain exercise for you - I’d love to hear what you would say.
What thing occupies my mind
TL;DR: This is my December.
