This is Totally Me Shilling a Pizza Oven
What I'm Up To (Birthday), What I Reflected On (Christopher Tin), and What's Occupying My Mind (Pizza Oven) - all part of Allen's Friday Flights
Welcome to the Friday Flight!
I’ve been quite busy getting fat this week while paradoxically keeping up my running mileage for the year. I’m at 955 miles of a 1,000 mile goal for the year, and that leaves 14 days to click in 45 miles.
Anyway, here’s my Friday Flights. A collection of updates.
Cheers!

The Things:
I got an NFT from EY. Lmao.
Avatar 2: Way of Water is a fun 3 hour movie, but you have to accept that the frame rate is noticeably inconsistent and bad. Synopsis:: Military Man turned Husband Takes Family on a Road Trip of a Lifetime.
Winter Eatery in Los Angeles: Go to Majordomo, make sure you’re a party of 6 and you get the Short-Rib. Source: I was just there.
Dropped by the Holiday Co-Mrkt in Little Tokyo to enjoy so many AAPI Vendors including, co-sponsored by CAUSE. Shoutout to Jason and his Christmas tree.
Bluey & Co’s Tiramisu Flight was divine.
Mochimas makes different flavored mochi…TARTS!!!
Cruellish cookies are….HUGE!
The Ooni Oven is so god damn fun you should get one. Thanks Edwin & Shacia. See photo at end.
I learned this week that Mochi Donuts are better refrigerator and it took me way too long to know this.
Witcher 3 Just Released the Next-Gen update so brb.
I am so fucking stoked that Henry Cavil is the executive producer to a Warhammer 40k Cinematic Universe. He’d be a great Eisenhorn imo.
VACA has pretty good Paellas and traditional Spanish Potatoes.
I am resisting the urge of buying a custom mechanical keyboard thanks to the amazing posts over at this subreddit.
Thanks to Aiden, I’ve had a chance to meet Lacey H, a woman who is damn great at finance. In the last 8 weeks I’ve met 3 financial GOATs, and all 3 happen to be women.
Shoutout to Brennan and GoCharlie for being displayed in Times Square!
Hiring Shoutout:
A Director of Internal Audit is looking for someone to help with SOX Testing, and separately, another person to help build Tableau dashboards. These are part-time - consider yourself a 1099. DM me if you are interested.
What I reflected On
TL;DR: Me being a Christopher Tin Fan Boi.
The Christopher Tin Fan Boi
I have a wide variety in music taste and preferences, even going so far as having my own obscurity. You know, the types of songs you don’t share to others because you can’t begin to explain it. Even after my genre explorations, I find myself always coming back to the classical arrangements.
One thing to comment about classical pieces is that if you aren’t looking for new composers, it’ll be hard to find anything that isn’t a reproduction of a multi century long suite.
13 Years Ago (2009) one of my favorite songs ever was published by a composer who soon become one of my all time favorites, Christopher Tin. That song is called Baba Yetu, and was featured in Civilization 4. It featured the Soweto Gospel Choir singing in Swahili. It would go on to win accolades and awards.
This song itself is quite powerful and if you get to see the Soweto Gospel Choir live, I 100% recommend it. Their timbre, which is the sound quality depth that can only be felt when you are there in person listening to a full stacked choir and orchestra, is out of this world.
6 Years ago (2016) he published another song called Sogno di Volare - The Dream of Flight - and it was featured in Civilization 5. It would again win more accolades. It easily became my #1 for a period there.
The song pays homage to the Renaissance period, which if you’ve ever played any Civilization game, is absolute hell to go through.
Christopher Tin is a composer whom I have kick-started every single album he’s done, and have signed physical CD albums to accompany them.
And in this fine December, my significant other and better half gifted a handwritten manuscript from Sogno di Volare, signed by Christopher Tin himself.
My SO knows how to usher in my 30s.
I’ll also have the pleasure of seeing Christopher Tin live next year to hear his latest composed album - The Lost Birds. That will be a treat.
What thing occupies my mind
TL;DR: Pizza oven.
This is Totally Me Shilling a Pizza Oven
I never realized how much fun it is to play with fire and make a pizza. That is, until I got an Ooni oven and realized cooking stuff in 900 degrees Fahrenheit is incredibly fun. It takes 15 minutes to fire up, and 1 minute to cook a pizza. Best make at least 4 pizzas.
If you want one, make sure you get:
Pizza Peel (to bring things in and out) & Pizza Turner (to turn the pizza inside the oven)
00 Pizza Flour which is oddly difficult to get if you’ve never seen it.
Thanks Edwin & Shacia for the Ooni.
Oh right, where are my manners.
The pizza.
It’s glorious.
Combine it with a Port Tawny Cocktail at Trader Joes and you’ll have a European night.
you can use bread flour too! it's just as good (or at least i couldnt tell the difference) and i made about 12 of them the other day!
Happy belated! We're both December babies :)
